What is carrot fence netting and how does it work?

Carrot fence netting which is made from 1m wide fine Veggiemesh is the perfect barrier against carrot root fly. This helps keep the aroma which attracts the flies to a minimum. Carrot flies cannot fly high enough to get over this barrier, significantly reducing your pest problems.

What other crops does the carrot fly attack?

The main host plant is carrots but they also attack celery, celeriac, parsnips and parsley. These pests overwinter in the soil so ensure that you rotate your crops and take into account the other vegetables this pest attacks.

Precautions to stop carrot fly

Avoid sowing susceptible plant seeds during the early spring and late summer when carrot flies will be laying eggs.

Install a netting fence as soon as you plant out the carrots.

Our kits contain an extremely fine (0.27 x 0.88mm) mesh, 1.2m (4') high tubes and clips for the length you choose. The poles need to be pushed into the soil 20cm which will give you a 1m high fence.

This netting is apart of the Carrot Netting Kit.
